Webroot's Desktop Firewall for Windows PCs is a great program for home and small office computer users who don't want to learn all the technical details. Desktop Firewall has an easy to use program interface that lets any user properly configure the program to allow wanted traffic while blocking all unwanted intrusions to keep your information safe. Expert users can use the program's advanced options to tweak all of the options to optimize access for their network.
Users have full control to select which programs installed on your computer are allowed to connect to the Internet. Desktop Firewall's interface allows users to instantly authorize programs like your email and Internet browser programs that you want to have access to the Internet. After the initial setup, Desktop Firewall blocks any suspicious programs or activity trying to gain access to your PC - programs like viruses, worms or Trojans that will harm your computer or steal your information. When an unauthorized program or computer tries to access your computer, or send data from your computer to someone else, Desktop Firewall's automatic alert system automatically sends you an alert to warn you before the problems occur. As you respond to these alerts, Desktop Firewall 'learns' from your responses to protect you with fewer interruptions. Desktop Firewall keeps a detailed log of all Internet activity that lets you see if attackers try to access your computer.
Desktop Firewall has two additional features to provide additional protection; Invisible Internet Presence and PC Lock Down. The Invisible Internet Presence puts your computer into 'stealth mode' making it 'invisible' to hackers searching for computers to attack on the Internet. They can't attack what they can't find. PC Lock Down lets you immediately stop all Internet traffic coming and going from your computer - sort of a 'panic button' that provides an instant way to protect your data if you suspect something is wrong.
Our experience with Webroot's tech support has been positive. We've needed to contact them only a few times, and each time our question was promptly - and correctly answered.
